How to cancel The Real World (and what you get back)
Cancel in your account settings at app.jointherealworld.com, before the next payment is taken.
You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
The support page says there are no refunds for time already started, “except where the law requires otherwise”. Deleting your account “does not automatically cancel your subscription”.
Step by step
- Log in at app.jointherealworld.com with the email address you joined with. The “Manage Membership” link at the bottom of the seller’s pages opens the same login, pointed at your membership settings.
- Go to your account settings, then the membership section. The support page calls it “your account settings (the membership portal)”.
- Cancel there, before the renewal payment goes through. The support page: “To avoid the next charge, cancel before your next scheduled renewal payment is processed.”
- Keep proof. Take a screenshot of the screen that shows the cancellation, with the date. The pages we read don’t say whether a confirmation email is sent.
- Don’t delete your account instead. The support page: “Deleting your account does not automatically cancel your subscription.”

If you can’t log in
The support page says to check the spam folder of the address you signed up with, then to email support@jointherealworld.com “from that same address”. The subscription policy asks you to bring questions about “cancellation or refund rights” to support “before your next renewal date”. → jointherealworld.com/support · jointherealworld.com/subscription-policy, September 27, 2026
If you paid through Apple or Google
The support page says the app installs from the website, with “no App Store, no Play Store”. If you did pay through an app store, the policy says those purchases follow “the relevant app store’s billing and refund policies”. → jointherealworld.com/support · jointherealworld.com/subscription-policy, September 27, 2026
What you get back
Your access
“Access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not end your current access immediately.” → jointherealworld.com/support, September 27, 2026
Your money
- The support page: “no refunds or credits are given for unused time once a billing period has started, except where the law requires otherwise”. → jointherealworld.com/support
- The terms: “Except where required by applicable law or expressly stated otherwise, Subscription fees are non-refundable.” → jointherealworld.com/terms
- The one opening the policy leaves: “Requests for refunds outside this policy may be considered at our sole discretion.” At its discretion means it can say no. The terms send those requests to support@jointherealworld.com. → jointherealworld.com/subscription-policy · jointherealworld.com/terms
- The law where you live: “Mandatory consumer rights continue to apply where required by applicable law.” The policy’s examples are “Germany, Israel, South Africa, Türkiye and certain states within the United States”, a list it calls “without limitation”. → jointherealworld.com/subscription-policy
- The terms add that by asking for immediate access, “you acknowledge that your statutory cancellation rights may be affected”. → jointherealworld.com/terms

Plan by plan
| Plan | Price as printed | What the seller’s pages say about cancelling and money back |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | “$99/month forever” | Stops the next monthly charge; “The monthly plan has no minimum term.” No refund for the month already started, “except where required by applicable law”. |
| Annual, paid monthly | “$996 a year” is printed, without saying which annual plan it is | “a 12-month commitment that is charged monthly”. Cancelling means “no future scheduled payments will be taken”; no refund for the month already started, “except where required by applicable law”. After 12 months it turns into the monthly plan “unless you proactively request another 12 month commitment”. |
| Annual, paid upfront | “$996 a year” is printed, without saying which annual plan it is | No refund “for unused portions after commencement, except where required by applicable law”. It “will renew if not actively cancelled in advance of the renewal date.” |
| Champions, two years | “$1,680 for two years”, “Payment is in crypto only” | “Your membership renews for another term unless you cancel before the renewal date.” “Fees for a period that has already started are not refundable, except where the law requires it.” |

Renewals
- Every plan renews on its own: “Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel first.” → jointherealworld.com/support
- Reminders: for annual plans, “the team aims to send a renewal reminder roughly 14 to 30 days beforehand as a courtesy; monthly plans generally renew without a reminder. Not receiving a reminder does not stop the renewal.” → jointherealworld.com/support
- Price: “Price changes apply only to future Subscription periods.” → jointherealworld.com/subscription-policy
- Ours: put the renewal date in your calendar a week early.
Crypto payments
- One plan is paid in crypto: “Champions is paid in crypto only.” → jointherealworld.com/champions
- The terms name cards only: “Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover credit/debit cards in USD (or any other agreed currency)”. Neither the terms nor the subscription policy mention crypto. → jointherealworld.com/terms
- The Champions plan “renews for another term unless you cancel before the renewal date”. None of the pages we read says how that renewal is collected when the plan was paid in crypto.
- Why it matters: “Cryptocurrency payments typically are not reversible. Once you pay with cryptocurrency, you can usually only get your money back if the person you paid sends it back.” The same FTC page notes that card payments come with a dispute process, and crypto payments typically do not. → FTC consumer advice on paying with cryptocurrency (May 2022), read September 27, 2026
If you’re charged after you cancelled
- Email support@jointherealworld.com from the address you joined with. Attach your screenshot and give the date you cancelled.
- If you paid by credit card and it isn’t fixed, contact your card issuer and dispute the charge in writing. In the US, the FTC says your letter should reach the issuer “within 60 days after the first bill with the error was sent to you”. → FTC, Using Credit Cards and Disputing Charges (May 2022), read September 27, 2026
- Blocking your card is not the same as cancelling. When a renewal payment fails, the policy says the seller “may retry payment, request updated payment details, suspend access, or cancel your Subscription if payment remains outstanding”. Cancel in your settings as well, so there is a record. → jointherealworld.com/subscription-policy
Cancel only at jointherealworld.com
On September 27, 2026, the search results for “how to cancel the real world” also showed other sites with “the real world” in their names. We did not check who runs them.
